  • Is it hard for women with retroverted uterus to get pregnant?

Retroversion is when the angle of the fundus of the uterus is leaning closer to the spine. Around 20% of women will have this situation.
Except for congenital, acquired diseases like endometriosis and tumors could cause retroversion.
Most people didn’t notice it, but some people have symptoms such as menstrual pain, backache, abdominal pain, and constipation.

How do I know if I have retroversion or anteversion?

Anteversion and retroversion depends on the leaning angle of the uterus.
It can be diagnosed by vaginal examination and ultrasound examination.
In vaginal examination, doctors will put their finger into the vigina while pressing on patients’ abdomen to determine the angle and size of the uterus.

How does retroversion affect my body?

Retroversion is just an angle of the uterus, not a disease.
Most people with retroversion do not experience discomfort, but some of them have symptoms like menstrual pain and backache.

What diseases could cause acquired retroversion?

Acquired retroversion was mostly related to pelvis and cesarean scar, such as:

  • Pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Asherman's syndrome
  • Pelvic surgery
  • Endometriosis
  • Uterine myoma
  • Ovarian cyst

Do I need surgery to cure retroversion?

Retroversion doesn’t need treatment. Instead, we should be focusing on treating gynecologic diseases .
There have been some retroversion correction exercises spreading on the internet.
Actually exercise is not helpful for retroversion. But you can try some stretching exercises to relieve backache.

Does retroversion affect the success rate of IVF treatment?

Retroversion doesn’t affect the success rate of pregnancy. If you have experienced difficulties getting pregnant, please seek help from infertility professionals.
So the rumor of ‘retroversion is causing difficulties for sperm to enter the womb, so it will lower the pregnancy rate’ is wrong!
The posture while having sex and the angle of the womb does not affect the success rate of pregnancy and IVF treatment.

In conclusion, retroversion is a physiological phenomenon, not a factor leading to infertility.
We should clarify the reason for infertility objectively, then set up corresponding treatments to increase chances of pregnancy.
